On my way to Abu Dhabi

I am about to board the plane to Abu Dhabi. This is going to be a really long flight (14 hours) I am so blessed to be able to travel across the world and to do something I love. I have met some really great people so far who are traveling over there as well and even though we are all from different schools we all have one thing in common The love for jiu-jitsu. Sitting in a plane for so long is going to drive me crazy. It's only my third time on a plane and it's my first time leaving the country. I have nothing to lose and everything to gain in this tournament. I will give it my all and hope to make you all proud. If there is Internet access i will try and keep everyone updated.

4-1 not 5-0

So I lost my fifth fight. It is the first lost in my career and I think that one is always the hardest for any athlete. The only thing that I can do is improve and make myself better. I thank Ron Jacobs for showing up and giving me 100 percent, he is a great fighter. I have tried not to think to much about this last fight and I am trying to look into the future. I have a lot of friends and family who have shared so many great words of wisdom with me so that I can keep my head up during this time. It has worked I haven't felt bad for myself once and I am just excited that I am still healthy and that I have the great opportunities that I have in life. I know what I need to improve on and how to make myself a more complete fighter. MMA is a roller coaster and it has many up, down, twist and turns. I ride this roller coaster because i love the thrill I love the sport.
Now in eight days I will be competing against the best in the world at the Abu Dhabi Pro World tournament. I have nothing to loose and everything to gain there and again its all about having fun!

Tonight I fight!!

Tonight I fight not because I want to improve my record. "records are for DJ's lol", not because I have a dream of gaining fame and riches, not because it's the new cool thing to do. I fight tonight because I feel that this is what I was born to do. I love testing my strengths and noticing my weaknesses inside of the cage. A fight teaches me dicipline in and out of the cage. I love the sport, I love everything about it. That is why I fight. Tonight I go to war.

The night before weigh ins

This is always a tough night i think for most fighters. They usually have to cut a lot of water weight and really cut back on food. Lucky for me my weight is great and im ready to weigh in. I felt that I was very disciplined with myself over the last 8 weeks. As soon as I found out I had a fight I knew it was time to start changing my eating habbits. I feel that weight cutting is one of the most important aspects of fighting. If you don't do it properly you could be doomed before you even walk into the ring. If you do it right then you will feel like a new man the day of the fight. I always make sure I stay really hydrated leading up to the fight by drinking a gallon of water a day and even two gallons up to a few days before weigh ins. This to me makes cutting weight a lot easier because when it's time to sweat out the water weight it just flows right out of me. There is a lot to the dieting aspect that I don't think I even have to perfection yet but I'm learning with every fight. Now after weigh ins it's all about carbing back up and rehydrating. A fighter should keep doing this up to the time he has to show up to the arena. Well now it's just the waiting game till I weigh in. If you have any questions about how I make weight or how I gain it back for the fight feel free to message me. 5-0 here I come

5-0

Wow time has is flying by way to fast. I remember when I was in high school and we would talk about MMA during wrestling practice. Back then I never thought I would ever even get the chance to step into a cage. We would watch local fights and look up to those fighters as if they were unstoppable. I would think "Man they must have to have some serious discipline and lots of heart to be in this sport." Fast forward 5 years later and I am now a purple belt in brazilian jiu-jitsu and I am working hard everyday to become 5-0. After acieving the dream of steping into the cage and winning my first fight, I set my next goal at becoming the big 5-0. Well this is it! This is the time for me to achieve this goal. I have worked so hard with my team at Gracie Barra Orlando and I will not let anyone take this moment away from me. I know that my opponent is training hard but there is no way has a team that is pushing him as hard as my team is. Even in MMA you are in there all alone with your opponent staring right back at you, I believe team work is what makes you into that champion. Like the say "There is no I in team" There is no way I would of been able to prepare for this fight without everyone who has been there for me. Thank you Todd, Mikey, Rafael, Hank, Remington, Tommy, Brandon, Greg, Kevin, Corey, Lovett, Louie, Frank, Bruce, Andrew, wow there is way to many people to thank. If I forgot you I am sorry. Most of all thank you to my Girl Friend Melisa she puts through a lot while I am training and she is very understaning of how much this means to me. I love You. Well be there this Saturday at the USF Sun Dome Arena to be apart of my dream.

Jim Alers Remains Undefeated

RFC 18 "Pride" hosted Florida State Lightweight Champion Edson Berto vs. Jason Ball from the UK in their main event at the A La Carte Pavillion in Tampa this weekend, with a decision victory for Ball after a tough three rounds. We previously saw Ball defeat Glen Mencer by TKO in the Cage Warriors event back in January, and look forward to his future presence in MMA in the US.
Determined to defend his undefeated record, Paragon fighter Jim Alers faced David Gomez, but not for long. After numerous takedowns in the first two minutes, Alers switched game plans and stalked Gomez around the cage before getting his first KO with a straight to Gomez' chin at 3:03 in the first round. Alers' passion commitment to training and to constantly improving his game paid off and brings him to 3-0 with an even greater passion for this sport.
Special thanks to all of Jim's sponsors, whose support is truly appreciated. Check out Steadfast Brand Clothing, NVRTAP, Projekt Label and Throwin' Knuckles to support those who support some of the great young fighters in MMA.
